The Wonders of Window treatments

Imagine this: you walk into a brand new home, some furniture is in position, and the smell of fresh paint still lingering.

You think to yourself “It’s so minimal and bare in here. Something’s missing. I just can’t put my finger on it.”

I bet you your bottom dollar, its window treatments.

Curtains, roller blinds, vertical blinds or shutters - no matter what kind of window treatments you go for, there’s no denying the layer of warmth and homeliness that they bring to your space.

When you’re weighing your options about the type of window covering, consider the room with which they are being applied to. For instance, if it is for your bedroom, you may require thick curtains to keep light from disturbing you in the early hours of the morning. To achieve this, you may consider a flat fold blind that sits within your window frame paired with heavy drapes made with a block out fabric, which would wrap around the sides of your window, to keep out the light.

When dressing your living area windows, you may prefer something that provides you with a bit of privacy but filters and softens the hard sunlight. A beautiful linen fabric, doubled if necessary, would bring an elegant and relaxed feel to your space.

In wet areas (and who am I kidding, in every area!!) plantation shutters made from a polyresin material are ideal! These classic coastal shutters are waterproof and easy to care for compared to original timber shutters.

The golden rule of hanging curtains is to set them as high as you can, just below your ceiling mouldings. The higher the curtain rod, the grander the feel. If space allows either side of your window, set your rods wide enough that your drapes clear the window entirely when open, allowing maximum light to flow in.

Selecting colour and fabric for your curtains can feel like a precarious decision. Choose wisely, curtains and blinds are not cheap to replace if you change your style in a few years time.

We recommend going with a colour and a pattern that you absolutely love! Neutrals and white are always a safe choice as they will coordinate with your furniture and decor no matter what trend is currently in fashion. But if you lean more towards a pop of colour, choose a shade that is already reflected in your main furniture colours. Block colour or ornate patterns with your statement colour tied in would look amazing!

Knowing the atmosphere and feeling you want in your room can help you select the type of window treatment that will best suit your style.

Love a calming, breezy vibe? Light sheer curtains are best here.

Into a moody and antique aesthetic? Dark drapes with a sublte pattern are what you need.

Regardless of the style of home you live in or the trend you’re currently loving, curtains and window treatments will add a layer of texture, warmth and luxury to your abode!
